There’s No Place Like Home [part 1] - Thoughts, Opinions, Discussions, Theories and More

Spoilers Included

The last week’s episode (”Cabin Fever“), has shown us the secret life of the little John Locke. It seems that both Matthew Abaddon and Richard Alpert have both been trying to get the little Locke to the island, years before he get on Oceanic Flight 815. A creepy part of this episode was the Locke’s visit to Jacob’s cabin, where Christian Shephard and his daughter, Claire (it turns out that she is Jack’s sister). They both speak from Jacob’s name (or they are a different form of Jacob or something, it is too complicated to know anything about yet), and they told John, that he needs to move the island they are on (very exciting!). I suppose this doesn’t mean to hang it on the boat and press the gas pedal, but probably moving in time and space. This is probably accomplished by a technology from “The Orchid” station researchers (see “The Orchid” station orientation video here to understand what I’m talking about).

This week’s episode (”There’s No Place Like Home [part 1]“) begins with an airplane and the Oceanic Six on it, flying to a secret military base near Honolulu. Michelle Forbes (Battlestar Galactica) plays the role of a “stewardess” of the Oceanic company. The landing is extremely emotional and the six losties finally reunion with their families.

Back on the island, the losties on the beach try to figure out what to do with the satellite phone that fell from the freighter people’s chopper. Daniel turns it on in “read” mode and they hear creepy transmissions and orders from the freighter people, talking about “The Orchid” station. Losties don’t know what this station is about, but Daniel later tells Charlotte, that they need to get off the island immediately.

Jack ignores the pain from the recent surgery on his appendix and goes on a trip to track down the freighter people, using the SAT phone. Kate follows him and they later meet Sawyer, Aaron and Miles. Kate asks where Claire is. Sawyer explains that she disappeared in the middle of the night. Kate takes responsibility for Aaron and Jack thinks it’s his responsibility for Desmond and Sayid being with the “bad guys”. Sawyer goes with Jack. Back to a flash-forward we see a press conference of the Oceanic 6, where Kate lies that Aaron is her baby and it was born on the island, where a reporter almost reveals the lie by asking if she were pregnant in the sixth month when she got on the plane.

Another reporter asks why they look so healthy if they were over 100 days on a lonely island and Hurley takes this question offensive, he also gets terrified when the reporter tells him that he will get his “cursed” lottery money back.

Sun is asked if Jin died on the island, but she lies and tells that he never made it out of the plane. After the press conference Sayid meets Nadia again for the first time in years.

Back on the island Sayid gets back from the ship with a rescue boat. Ben, Hurley and Locke head to “The Orchid” station to move the island. Hurley asks why they didn’t moved it before the baddies come and Ben answers that it is a last measure, because it is a dangerous and unpredictable procedure. Ben also has an emergency box under a rock, with some supplies. It contains a mirror, which he uses to communicate with some people up in the hills. Locke is curious who that people were, but Ben doesn’t answer (I suppose it’s Ben’s people - the “Others”).

Sayid and Kate go after Jack to help him, leaving Aaron to Sun and the rescue mission for Daniel. Sun, Jin and a couple of people head for the freighter.

Forward to the future, Sun’s father asks how her baby is going but she insults him. She knew Mr. Pain hated her husband, Jin, so now she used her settlement from Oceanic to buy control in his company and now she has more respect than him. She says that only two people are responsible for Jin’s death and Paik is one of them (here I suppose that Jin is killed by somebody, Ben maybe?).

Hurley gets home and find a surprising birthday party in his honor by his family and island friends. Hurley’s dad has a birthday present, but Hurley is happy that it was not bought with the “cursed” lottery money. His dad fixed his old car. When he gets in for a test drive, he sees the speedometer showing the “cursed” numbers - 4 8 15 16 23 42. Hurley runs in madness (this may be the moment we saw him later in a mental hospital).

On the island Kate and Sawyer run into the “Others” and get “arrested”. Meanwhile Ben gives instruction to Locke on how to enter the Orchid station and claims that he will take care for the guarding freighter people, claiming that he has a plan. He always has.

Ben turns himself down to Keamy and the rest of the freighter people, and Keamy knocks him down with his gun. That’s the end of the episode.

Hold on for your hats for the second part of the season finale of Lost, which will be in two parts, one hour each, both airing on May 29th at 9pm.
